Horace

         Horace, a very good friend of Will's, is one of the youngest and most famous knights in the kingdom of Araluen. Known in Gallica as the Knight of the Oakleaf, his shield bears the insignia of an Oakleaf. Horace is currently part of the King's Royal Guard. He has a legendary reputation, having defeated Moragath in single combat, made his way through Gallica as Knight of the Oakleaf, helped save Skanadia from the Temujai, and saved Clonmel as the Sunrise Warrior. He is champion to Princess Cassandra, and a deeper relationship between them is hinted at in The Battle for Skanadia and throughout the rest of the series.

Rangers Apprentice

The Ranger’s Apprentice series takes place around the medieval times and is about an orphan named Will who wants to be a knight. Once he turns sixteen he has to go to a choosing where they pick what occupation he will have for the rest of his life. He asks to be a knight but the battle master says he is too small. Then Halt the mysterious ranger chooses Will as his apprentice. Will is scared because all of the town people fear the rangers and think that they perform dark magic. They think this because rangers seem to disappear and reappear out of thin air. Later he finds out that the ranger corps is an elite force that works for the King. They specialize in archery, throwing knives, moving through the woods silently, blending into their environment so that they can’t be seen and war tactics. On his adventures he becomes best friends with Horace an extremely skilled knight.
